Who I Am in Christ

Teaching Outline: Who I Am in Christ

A 20-Minute Small Group Teaching for Awakening House Churches. The time outlines are just suggestions. You can teach longer based on this material.

Opening Prayer (2 min)

  • Invite the Holy Spirit to bring revelation of our identity in Christ.
  • Ask for hearts to be renewed and minds transformed by God’s truth.
  1. Why Identity in Christ Matters (5 min)
  2. The World Tries to Define Us
  • Many people define themselves by their past, failures, careers, or others’ opinions.
  • But as believers, our true identity comes from who God says we are.
  1. We Must See Ourselves as God Sees Us
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
  • In Christ, we are not our past, our mistakes, or our limitations—we are new creations.
  • The enemy attacks our identity because he knows that if we understand who we are, we will walk in power.

II. Who Am I in Christ? (7 min)

  1. I Am a Child of God
  • John 1:12 (NIV)“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
  • We are not orphans; we are sons and daughters of the King.
  1. I Am Forgiven & Redeemed
  • Ephesians 1:7 (NIV)“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
  • We do not live under guilt, shame, or condemnation—we are completely forgiven.
  1. I Am Victorious in Christ
  • Romans 8:37 (NIV)“In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
  • We are not defeated—we are overcomers in Christ.
  1. I Am Loved & Accepted
  • Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
  • Nothing can separate us from God’s love—we are fully accepted in Christ.
  1. I Am Chosen & Called
  • 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
  • God has a purpose for us, and He calls us to walk in His light.

III. Living Out Your Identity in Christ (5 min)

  1. Renew Your Mind with the Word
  • Romans 12:2 (NIV)“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
  • Replace lies with God’s truth about who you are.
  1. Reject the Enemy’s Lies
  • John 8:44 (NIV)“The devil… is a liar and the father of lies.”
  • Every time the enemy whispers fear, insecurity, or doubt, replace it with Scripture.
  1. Walk in Confidence & Authority
  • Luke 10:19 (NIV)“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
  • Live as a child of God, not a victim of circumstances.

IV. Group Discussion & Application (5 min)

Discussion Questions:

  1. Which truth about your identity in Christ spoke to you the most?
  2. Have you ever believed a lie about yourself? How can you replace it with God’s truth?
  3. What practical steps can you take this week to walk in your identity in Christ?

Closing Prayer (2 min)

  • Pray for renewed identity, freedom from lies, and confidence in Christ.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to seal this revelation in each heart.

Bonus Challenge: Encourage members to meditate on one key verse from the teaching every day this week and declare it out loud over their lives.
